Something Old, Something New

It's been about three weeks since I started the new job and can I say what a world of difference! Working in corporate America is kind of like riding a bike. It may have been a while since you've done it but you never forget how! The building I work in is a vast cubicle farm as far as they eye can see. Tall people walking around in the cubicles look like disembodied heads. The job is going well... I think. Still learning the ropes but that is part of the appeal. It's all new! Oh, got my first paycheck last week. It was kind of weird because I actually had money left over! I didn't know what to do with all that cash so I actually put some in a high yield savings account! But there was STILL money left over so I decided to open in IRA. Is this what it feels like when you don't have to struggle every week? It has been quite a while for me and this will definitely take some getting used to!!

On the flip side, there are some things about the old job that I do miss. I know I bitched a lot about working at Equity but I do miss the people I worked with. Oh, and let's not forget the constant stream (almost like a conveyor belt!) of treats. The big deal at the new office is doughnut Friday. That seems to be the extent of the treats on my side of the office but I have heard word that the gals in accounts receivable like to party and often bring in treats so I will definitely be making friends with that crew! I used to work in AR back in college and those ladies were the same way. The other thing I miss is working in the loop. One train ride and I was in the middle of everything; Shopping, museums, parks! I'm still able to take public transportation to work but it's not the same. The most exciting thing in Niles is a full size replica of the Leaning tower of Pisa. What?! Don't ask. Everything else is basic suburban blandness. Strip malls over here, strip malls over there, strip malls every fucking where! Oh, but I am directly across the street from my favorite store, Target. So it isn't so bad! :) But you know me. No rash decisions. Gotta' see how far this horse takes me. If it breaks a leg I will shoot it like all the rest!
