Pointing the Finger
Let's talk about the latest voice of the war protest Cindy Sheehan. Cindy was joined by some 100 supporters over the past week in her efforts to speak with the President. Her request is a simple one and one which I think is totally justified. All she is asking is for the president to give her a reason why we are in Iraq. She wants him to tell the truth. Cindy, I've been wanting him to do that for the past three years. What I find reprehensible is not his refusal to meet with Mrs. Sheehan. No, I'm more disturbed by the American public and their lack of concern regarding the miriad of justifications for our involvement in Iraq. I've been angry from the moment I heard we were going to Iraq. I have often felt I was the only one who heard the various reports which stated that there were no WMD's. Was I the only one who heard the reports which stated there was no connection between Sadaam Husein and the terrorirsts who crashed planes into the Pentagon and the World Trade Center? Why are we there again, Mr. President? Oh, now I remember. It is so the terrorists won't come over here. That's why we are fighting them over there. Right...
And now Cindy Sheehan is excercising her rights as an American. She is engaged in peaceful protest with a simple goal. But as with many non-violent protests there are those who feel she shouldn't have a voice. That she is fueling the fires of terrorism by protesting. Some have even called her actions treasonous. There was even one good old boy who thought it was a good idea to run over crosses which were planted to remember those who had fallen in Iraq. I feel like I'm living in an alternate universe where everything is backwards! How in God's name can an American citizen who is excercising her rights to free speech be wrong but a president who has lied at every turn about the reasons for this war not be challenged but is given card blanche with a foreign policy that has alienated us with some countries and insulted others? I have always said that my job as an American citizen is to question EVERYTHING especially our leaders. The minute we stop asking the question is the minute we end up with people like George Bush in office. The American people are to blame for any travesty that this administration wroughts. We had the information and we had the opportunity but we decided to put him back in office. The blame is squearely on us.
